Out of curiosity, we ordered a copy of the Rapides Parish mugshots for August 1st through the 15th.
I am not sure if any of us want to spend the time to attach the name and charge to each mugshot (we are not doing any of this for profit). I know that the Cenla Bottom Line came out recently and two other publications that feature local mug shots. We have already asserted that we have no intention of competing with these guys anyway so I guess this is just sort of a novelty. I believe if we do publish anymore mugshots in the future then it would only be once per month and may not contain anything but the mugshots themselves….we will see.
We have to wonder though what we really gain from publishing mugshots. I have seen the new publications everywhere and people just seem fascinated by the misfortune of others. I went to the courthouse today and noticed even many of the deputies had copies of the Bottom Line. Well, maybe we should reexamine our laws….is it really fair to publish these pictures? Right now, they are public record and available to anyone as they have been for years; technology has just made them so much more accessible.
